What you should know about Lemon Water

You should have a drink of lemon water in the morning. There is no secret that water is a necessity for life.  We are always reminded to drink eight glasses of water everyday to keep hydrated.  Water has so many purposes, but when you squeeze the juice of a lemon or lime into a glass of warm water you can get yourself not only a flavorful glass of lemon water, but a remarkable tonic that can do wonders for your body.

A Simple Tonic

The people of Ancient Egypt, Greece and the Middle East knew very well of the wonders of lemon in water.  Lemon or lime by itself has many remarkable nutritious properties.  It is rich in citric acid and vitamin C.  People who lack vitamin C in their diet often find that they are quickly fatigued or stressed out.  They also have a weak immune system.  Thus they tend to heal slower.  When they include a daily ritual of lemon water to their diet they immediately notice a number of remarkable changes in their body.

I have found this to be true as well.  Lemon water can do wonders for the body.  Lemon water is part of my daily ritual and it is very simple to do.  Just mix a glass of warm (purified) water with the juice of a squeezed lime or 1/2 a lemon.  This is my first drink before breakfast every single day, and  I must say that this drink will do wonders for you as well.

The Wonders of Lemon Water

Lemon or lime water has many benefits. Lemon or lime water is known as a “Master Cleanser” and an old but simple detox remedy. It can therefore clean the digestive system and reduce heartburn, bloating and belching.  It can also prevent constipation and diarrhea.

It also has positive effects on the liver, the bile and digestion. Therefore, it can help fight against kidney stones.  This powerful tonic, with its great source of vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent.  The peel also contains these properties and are also known to to have anti-cancer properties because of the chemical compound called limonene.  According to research done at the University of Arizona, 1 tablespoon of grated peel (per week) is all you need to reduce the risk of skin cancer by 30 percent.  Therefore, it is a good idea to include some of the lemon rind in your lemon water.

One of my favorite benefits of lemon water is that it can help control hunger pangs and thus prevent obesity or excessive weight gain.  Lemon water increase metabolism, so the body can use energy efficiently. Another great benefit of lemon water is that it can enhance skin tone, something I believe a lot of women would also be please to hear.

With so many benefits who could complain!  No wonder most people who follow this ritual daily find that their mood is always positive.  This drink is another link towards a healthier lifestyle. So the next time when life throws lemons at you… make some lemon water.  🙂
