Turkey Cooking Calculator
Plan a conventional-oven roasting window for a thawed turkey using USDA time bands.
Plan your turkey
Cooking times are estimates. Always confirm doneness with a food thermometer.
Roast at 325°F / 163°C. Turkey and stuffing must reach 165°F / 74°C. For a whole bird, check the thickest breast and the innermost thigh and wing. Stuffing centre must also reach 165°F. USDA recommends cooking stuffing separately for safety and more even cooking.
Cooking times are estimates. Always confirm doneness using a food thermometer. Allow about 20 minutes to rest before carving.
Turkey planning notes
These bands are for conventional-oven roasting at 325°F and fresh or completely thawed turkey. Frozen or partly frozen turkey needs safe thawing guidance first; do not apply thawed-bird timing. Never thaw on the countertop.

How to use this tool
Enter the turkey weight and units, choose whole turkey or breast, select the stuffing option, and state whether the turkey is fresh or completely thawed. Add the time you want to serve and a preparation buffer, then review the calculated roasting plan. The calculator is for conventional-oven planning and produces an estimate. It cannot inspect the bird, measure the oven, or confirm that the centre has reached a safe temperature. Use the result to organize the day, then use a food thermometer and the complete safety notes on this page.
Method and practical checks
The model selects a supported time band from the weight, turkey type, stuffing choice, and preparation state. It calculates backward from the serving time and keeps the buffer separate from cooking and resting. Do not apply a thawed-turkey time to a frozen or partly frozen bird. Follow current food-safety guidance for thawing, handling, stuffing, resting, and checking multiple locations of the bird. If the product label or a competent food-safety source gives a more specific instruction for your turkey, use that instruction and verify the internal temperature.
Plan enough time for safe preparation, cooking, resting, carving, and serving rather than using the displayed roasting window as the whole schedule. Use a thermometer in the locations described by the safety guidance and do not rely on colour or elapsed time alone. Keep the raw bird and its juices away from ready-to-eat food, wash hands and surfaces, and follow safe thawing instructions. If the turkey differs from the supported choices, do not force it into a nearby category; use product-specific guidance.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a doneness guarantee?
No. It is an estimated planning window; a food thermometer and the safety guidance determine readiness.
Can I use it for a frozen turkey?
No. The thawed time bands should not be applied to a frozen or partly frozen turkey.
