Cooking Utensils We Use in Trini Cooking

In every kitchen there are a number of basic cooking utensils that is necessary for everyday cooking. In Trinidad and Tobago, it is the same, but there are those utensils that are more important than others. This list provides the basic, traditional utensils, commonly used to prepare the Trini recipes in this blog. They are handy and make cooking easy. No Trini kitchen could do without this set of utensils.


Some cooking utensils used in Trini cooking


  1. A heavy cast iron pot (also called a caldero or caldron)
  2. Pastelle press
  3. Mortar and pestle (pilón)
  4. Bailna or rolling pin
  5. Tawah (similar to a griddle)
  6. Kalchul (a metal ladle)
  7. Goblet
  8. Swizzle Stick
  9. Dhal Gutney
  10. Dabla for making buss-up-shut or paratha roti.
